Last August, when Riz Ahmed decided to close his Bristol restaurant The Hourglass Brasserie and asked if chef Christian Ferreira and his dad Paul were interested in taking over the place, they had to act quickly. A month later, they were getting ready to go. At the time, Christian was the chef at Roberto’s on Hope Street in Bristol but had been itching to open his own place. Just five years after earning a culinary arts degree from Johnson & Wales University, the Newport resident has his very own eponymous wood-fired grill restaurant. Besides his dad, he has help running it from his mother Kendra and brother PJ. Christian’s will be among the more than 50 restaurants participating in Newport Restaurant Week from March 20-29.
